A little about Kelly and her health and wellness journey
I am a Holistic Nutrition Coach and the founder of Kelly Cornell Wellness. I decided to become a nutrition coach because I know it is my mission to support men and women who want to improve their health, lose weight, prevent disease, and live an amazing life.
My journey with health and wellness began well over two decades ago when I found myself overweight and unable to control my eating habits. I grew up in house where both my parents taught me the value of good nutrition and the joy of being physically active. I was healthy and fit until the age of eighteen, when I gave up on my childhood dream of becoming a performer. I felt lost and unsure where my future was headed. I started putting on weight and developed health issues. A few years later, my doctor diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. He did a routine laparoscopy and removed several cysts from both of my ovaries. I thought that would take care of everything, but found myself dealing with major mood swings, battling with my weight and feeling more out of control than ever.
I got married and wanted to start a family but learned that due to my hormonal and chemical imbalances, conceiving would not be easy. Happily, I adopted a son as I was eager to begin my family and did not want to accept the fact that I could end up childless.
In an effort to lose weight and experience the same type of joy I felt when I was performing, I began teaching aerobics and went on to fully embrace the fitness world. For many years, I taught aerobics, managed my gym’s aerobics department, and became a fitness trainer, but still struggled with my weight, overall health and infertility. Sadly, I just didn’t get that there was a body, mind, spirit dis-connection that was the source of my suffering.
I didn’t understand that the food I was eating, and those that I was avoiding were not serving my body well. I didn’t understand that by not fulfilling my dream of performing, I had shut down a big part of who I came here to be.
Fortunately, with the help of fertility treatments I gave birth to two healthy babies, making my oldest son the proud big brother of a baby brother and baby sister.
After my twins were born I decided it was time to learn more about nutrition, and how I could take better care of myself and my family through healthy eating. Learning about food chemistry, digestion, vitamins and minerals, human anatomy and physiology, and all the other courses I took gave me the foundation I needed to begin healing my body.
When I learned about the connection between body, mind and spirit and opened up to a deeper level of healing, that’s when everything shifted for me. I discovered that I could let go of my emotional eating patterns, and I could feel better about my body. I discovered that I couldn’t just ignore my dreams and live life in the neutral zone.
The more I allowed myself to be true to my heart’s desires – the more peace, love and joy I experienced in my life.
My life is completely different now. My journey was long and challenging at times. I often wonder if things would have been different had I met someone who could guide and support me in exploring a holistic approach to losing weight, healing my body and living life to my fullest potential.
And that is why I do the work I do supporting other people just like me who struggle with their weight and health, because I’ve been there and I know how to help them break free from the struggle once and for all.
