The Social Construction of Online Dating: Driven by recent societal shifts, online dating occurs within the interstices of organizational and individual social processes, mediated by technology. Economic enterprises have created socio-technological infrastructures that enable both electronic and face-to-face F2F interactions, creating new and modified social processes.
The purpose of this article is to situate online dating within an institutional framework, describe the technologically-mediated social interaction environment, and provide initial findings on the social interaction processes of users. The online dating phenomenon is situated within a larger societal and institutional context, with a consumption junction, where online users socially interact with one another.
In recent years, one of the few areas of datinh and profitability in the technological sector was online dating, with the numbers of unique users approaching half of all single individuals in the United States in Mulrine.
